29 May 2024

An ecstatic Sophia Taylor Salmon sat with nervous excitement in the JMMB Group boardroom (last week), to collect her grand prize of a J$250,000 Courts voucher from JMMB Money Transfer CEO, Sharon Gibson. She was named the grand prize winner of the JMMB Money Transfer  Visa Prepaid Card 3-month campaign. As reality hit, Sophia shared, “I am looking forward to going to the Courts Portmore location to get a brand new stove, deep freeze and sofa, so I can transform my house into a home.”

The 53-year old winner and mom of three, outlined that she is looking forward to sprucing up her new space, to make it more welcoming to create memories and share cherished moments with family and friends. With a love for cooking, Sophia is excited to delight her loved ones taste buds with her culinary skills and share more quality time with her children as they cozy up for movie time. “It is such a good feeling knowing that I can just walk into Courts and choose what I want, (to add) some finishing touches to my home.” Armed with a clear plan and now with her grand prize in hand, Sophia revealed her next stop is Courts to make her selection so that her vision can become a reality.

Chuckling, she said, “I hope I will win a car next,” as this grand prize signified a change of her fate, for the first time winner. Admitting that she had doubts initially when she was advised by JMMB she was the grand prize winner; however, after verification with the JMMB team about the legitimacy of the campaign and prize, her fears were laid to rest.

Her decision to switch from another remittance provider to the JMMB Money Transfer Visa Prepaid card was motivated by the added convenience and features. “The prepaid card made it easier for me to collect cash from my friends and family overseas, since I don’t need to join a line to get my money. I can just get the money on the card and then spend it at the supermarket, go to the ATM, pay bills or use it anywhere else.” The added benefit of retail therapy with access to online shopping solidified the decision for Sophia.

SPS_4219w.JPGSharon Gibson, JMMB Money Transfer CEO, was almost equally excited as Sophia on the occasion, as she welcomed her as a new client to the JMMB family. “I am happy that our clients are able to easily get their funds from overseas and enjoy using their JMMB (Money Transfer) prepaid card to carry out their daily transactions seamlessly. We are pleased that this latest solution is improving their experience and making their lives better.” The JMMB MT exec added that she is encouraged by the positive feedback from clients and she is looking forward to increased take up by new and existing clients, as it will provide a win-win opportunity.

During the three-month campaign, the first 250 cardholders received a J$2000 top-up from JMMB Money Transfer and three monthly supermarket vouchers valued at J$25,000, in addition to the J$250,000 Courts voucher grand prize.

This JMMB MT Visa Prepaid card comes against the background that the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) 2023 National Financial Inclusion report, outlined that close to 23 per cent of the population do not have bank accounts. As such, this prepaid card aims to bridge this gap by providing a convenient and accessible financial tool for underserved individuals. Unlike traditional banking, this prepaid card offers a hassle-free alternative, allowing users to receive funds from overseas relatives and friends within minutes, without the need for a bank account. Thereafter individuals can use the card to spend, load the card with more transfers and repeat.

Gibson encouraged individuals to tap into the benefits of the JMMB Money Transfer Visa Prepaid card, noting, “Even though the campaign has ended, the great benefits offered by the prepaid card are ongoing. Persons can sign up for the card online, at https://jm.jmmb.com/JMMBMT-Prepaid-Card or during pop-ups at select locations island wide. The application is straightforward and all you will need is a valid government-issued ID, taxpayer registration number (TRN), mobile phone number and a selfie/photo, for verification.” Upon being approved, users will be able to collect their cards from the nearest JMMB branch within 3 – 5 business days, or opt for delivery, via select courier services.
